Solitaire and Solo Card Games

Klondike Solitaire is the game most people picture when they hear the word solitaire: build each suit from ace to king on the foundations while stacking alternating colors in the tableau. Spider Solitaire uses 104 cards and lets you pick one, two or four suits, so you can choose your difficulty. FreeCell Solitaire gives you open cells to park cards in, which makes it more about planning than luck, and Pyramid Solitaire has you pair exposed cards that add up to 13.

If you like numbers and logic as much as cards, our puzzle games include Sudoku and Mahjong, and our own Pepper Sweeper is a minesweeper game where every hidden mine is a hot pepper.

Board Games for One or Two Players

Board games are turn-based, which makes them perfect for two people sharing one mouse. Chess highlights the squares a piece can move to after you click it, which helps if you're still learning. Checkers rewards jumping your opponent's pieces, Ludo supports up to four players, and Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games, with a history traced back nearly 5,000 years.

Our original Pizza Tac Toe puts a pizza spin on the classic and adds a 5x5 board for longer games, with a CPU opponent when you're playing solo. For more ways to play with a friend, see our 2 player games.

Tips for Better Solitaire

A few habits help in almost every solitaire game. Before you draw a new card, look for moves in the tableau, especially ones that turn over a face-down card. Empty columns are valuable in Klondike Solitaire and FreeCell Solitaire, so don't fill them without a plan. In Spider Solitaire, deal from the stock only when you've run out of moves, since it adds a card to every column and can bury the sequences you were building.

Card & Board Games FAQ

Which solitaire game is easiest for beginners?

Klondike Solitaire is the most familiar, so it's a natural first game. Spider Solitaire on its one-suit Easy mode is also friendly, since you never have to worry about matching suits. Move up to two or four suits once you can clear the easy deals.

Can I play board games against a friend on one computer?

Yes. Chess, Checkers and Backgammon are turn-based, so you just take turns with the mouse. Four In A Row and Pizza Tac Toe also let you play the computer when no one else is around, which is handy for practicing.

What's the difference between Draw and Block dominoes?

In Draw dominoes, if you can't match a tile, you take new ones from the pile until you can. In Block dominoes, you pass your turn instead. Both modes of Dominoes are played until someone reaches 100 points, so a full game takes a few rounds.
